Fifth Annual Point Reyes Fungus Fair
Bear Valley Visitor Center
January 31, 2010 | 10:00 am — 4:00 pm

Join us for the Fifth Annual Point Reyes National Seashore Fungus Fair. Amateur mycologists will be on hand to talk about mushrooms, their role in the environment, and more! Attend free lectures in the Bear Valley Visitor Center Auditorium.

The first Fungus Fair was an offshoot of the Mycoblitz, a longterm project to collect, identify and catalog the species of mushrooms at the Point Reyes National Seashore. This effort was a collaboration of PRNS, the Bay Area Mycological Society and the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at UC Berkeley. To learn more about the Mycoblitz, follow the links on the right side of this page.

Learn how fungi work in the complex habitats of the Point Reyes National Seashore, from oak and bishop pine forests to grasslands and sand dunes. At the display tables, you can pore over the remarkable colors and shapes of wild mushrooms collected in the park.

Visitors are welcome to join local mushroom walks on Saturday, January 30th. Meet at the Bear Valley Visitor Center at 10:00 a.m. for instructions and to choose a route. Bring your finds to the Red Barn at 1:00 p.m. for identification. Park visitors and local residents are welcome to participate!
